Eccentric Antique Mall Finds

Nina and I took a trip to Lawrence today to drop off a few mosaics to a fabulous customer and we just had to stop into the antique mall.  We didn't have much time, but I did find a few things:

There is no such thing as too many antique prosthetic legs and/or leg braces.

Sparks Flea Market!!

I've been burning through my mosaic ingredient stash as I frantically prepare for the Columbus, Ohio Country Living Show, September 14, 15 and 16!!  It's always fun and inspiring to pick up new things, and I'll post pics of what I bought later, but here are some shots of the fun things we saw today:

The wire under the theater seat is a  hat holder - cool!!

My favorite vendor, Billy.  He always has a bunch of SUPER mosaic ingredients for an equally SUPER price!!!

I also didn't buy this paper mache raven, but took a pic so I could remember him.

This is Amy.  Jason and I are getting matching stag beetle tattoos at the end of October and I'm going for an inner-arm placement like this.  Amy is so pretty - great skin, hair, clothes, sun glasses, love her look!

Elle wanted to put this in front of her bar - PERFECT.  It needs to be rewired, but the sides light up!

The Little Steak House Across from the Big House

Elle, Nina and I trekked out to Leavenworth, Kansas last week for some junkin. We ate at the little steak house that was quite literally across from the big house.

We had a great time, lots of interesting stuff.







Great mosaic fodder - gotta get busy this week and keep makin' those pieces just in case I get into the Austin Country Living show!

Bluebeards History House Antique Gallery

Nina, Elle, and I visited some fun places in and around Garnett, Kansas today, including Bluebeards History House Antique Gallery. Here's the proprietor, Gary. He was a really good sport when I asked him to pose with this "bed and douche" pan.


And a breast pump . . . what a guy!!!! He made our trip really fun and his shop was full of amazing things.



Reverse painted silhouettes. Man, is somebody ever nuts about these! Were they part of a private collection? I could never sell my chalk kewpies! Not while I'm alive, anyway.




Really heavy iron marking for giant boiler from 1923.

Loved this iron rabbit.




Gary said the women carved into the arms of this furniture each had slightly different faces. Ahhhhh . . . to live in a time when things weren't pressed out of some cheap mold in China.

So many stately old homes. I wonder for whom they were built? What was the economic staple in Garnett that drew the wealthy folk?
