Styling in Barcelona

As we walked around Barcelona last week, I was struck by the amazing design style in the shops and bistros.

I would have missed this shop had it not been for Jason. I was busy looking up at the statues and verandas in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona.

The crow to the left is Bernardo and he is now hanging in my family room. Yeah!

Right up my alley. I use plastic cockroaches in my mosaics as seen HERE.

Necklace of koi fish.
Hanger, toilet paper, fried egg earrings.

Another interesting thing about Spain was all of the snazzy kids clothes. Here are a pair of tiny leather pants, jacket, and Godfather tee shirt.

More snazzy kids clothes. Love the tie and that's a Michael Jackson jacket to the left.

This was a bistro. Love the use of flatware.

OMG! Do not blow this one up if you are easily offended.

And this was the ceiling in a little place next to Guera's flat where we had breakfast one day. No way!!

Speaking of Guera. We had such a wonderful time with he and his family. Here he is playing guitar with his wife, Slavitsta, looking on.

Guera showing us some of Jock's cover art.

Jason and I in front of our hotel in Barcelona.

And I missed this one in previous posts. This was taken in Aviles. This is a very traditional way of serving cider. You must first aerate it and drink it quickly in small quantities. It wasn't the traditional sweet apple cider we are used to in the States, it tasted of vinegar, but what a show!

Gijon, Spain

On our recent trip to Spain, we spent a day in Gijon, only a 30 minute bus ride from Aviles.

Gijon is right on the sea and just like Aviles, it's packed with charm.

One really interesting thing about all the cities we saw is that there is a new part of the city, and an old part. Unlike in the U.S., Europeans don't demolish old buildings to make way for the new; they exist in concert. Here's a view of a street leading to the old section of Gijon.

Guera's daughter, Maria.

Guera's daughter, Milena. We had such a great time with his family. These children were so lovable!!!!!

Still Having a Blast in Aviles!

Today, some friends and I checked out more sights around Aviles.

The night life here is also lots of fun - here are Diego and "El Diablo". This is what I started calling the bartender a few nights ago and he doesn't seem to mind. His girlfriend also tends bar and she is respectfully called "Mrs. Diablo".

Alberto and Mamen.

Melinda Gebbie and me after a great dinner last night.

Feeling kind of run down so I'm spending the night in posting on the blog and getting ready to watch a show on the ipad.

R M Guera

Just one of the many fun things about hanging out in Aviles, Spain this week has been enjoying the company of some great artists and creators, including RM Guera. Guera has a long history as an artist and is co creator with my husband, Jason Aaron, on Vertigo's Scalped.

Here's Guera doing a sketch for a fan in the Plaza.

We got a sneak peek at an exibition comprised of Guera's work earlier today and it was so interesting to hear him talk about the stories behind the work. Here are Guera, Jason and I.

We are really excited about accompanying Guera and his family back to their home in Barcelona after the convention. I can't wait to see more of this amazing country!
